What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess skin around your eyes. Dr. Baron offers eyelid surgery for both upper and lower lids.

Upper eyelid surgery tightens loose skin on your upper eyelid that droops over your eye. Lower eyelid surgery removes bulges of tissue from below the eye. What is recovery like after eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery at Breast Body Beauty Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, so you go home the same day as the procedure. It only takes a couple of hours and you’re placed under general anesthesia. Once you’re stable, Dr. Baron releases you to go home. You will need the help of a driver.

In the first few days after the procedure, use cold compresses to reduce any swelling or bruising around your eyes. Dr. Baron will warn you about temporary excessive tearing or dry eyes following the procedure.

The first few nights after a blepharoplasty, it’s recommended you sleep in a sitting position to minimize swelling. You can manage pain sufficiently with over-the-counter medications for the most part.

Dr. Baron removes your stitches after 4-7 days. You should avoid wearing eye makeup for at least one week. Activity is limited for up to six weeks after surgery.
