Annual BRA Day
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, also known as BRA Day, is an awareness campaign designed to rid women of the unknown by informing them of all breast reconstruction options through public education, patient care and research. “Less than twenty-three percent of women are aware of the range of breast reconstruction options that are available.” First launched in 2011 in Canada, BRA Day occurs annually on the third Wednesday of October. This special day is a collaborative effort between the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Plastic Surgery Foundation, plastic surgeons specializing in breast surgery, nurse navigators, corporate partners, breast cancer support groups, and organizations. These groups, as well as breast cancer patients, families, and friends, coordinate events that include media events, question and answer sessions, lectures, flash mobs, fundraising parties, advertising campaigns, community events, and more.
