Rhinoplasty
The nose is considered the most prominent feature on the face and because of this, small cosmetic changes can improve the appearance of the whole face. If you have trouble breathing due to injury or a congenital defect or if you have cosmetic concerns like a crooked nose, rhinoplasty or nose surgery can lead to big improvements. Rhinoplasty by Dr. Aisha Baron can be used to repair and reshape the bone, cartilage, and skin of the nose. Our board-certified plastic surgeon in Atlanta, Dr. Baron will work closely with you to evaluate your nose and create an individualized surgical plan based on your needs and concerns. During the consultation, Dr. Baron will also consider your skin and other facial features to create your best results.
Best Candidates
Rhinoplasty offers many benefits to patients looking to enhance their facial appearance. This procedure can be performed at any age however, it is suggested that children and teens wait to undergo this procedure until their facial growth is complete. Good candidates for rhinoplasty may have any of the following nasal issues:
- A disproportionate nose
- Deviated septum
- Enlarged nasal tip
- Excessively flared nostrils
- Crooked or off-center nasal bridge
What To Expect
Rhinoplasty is usually performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under local or general anesthesia. Each patient's surgical experience will differ due to their individual needs and goals. There are a number of approaches and techniques that can be used during nose surgery, including open and closed rhinoplasty. When augmenting the nose, the surgeon can take cartilage from deep within the nose or the cartilage may be harvested from other areas of the body such as the ribs.
Other Considerations
Following surgery, patients can expect to have swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes for approximately two weeks. Patients will need to keep their head above their chest to help improve swelling. Congestion is also common following rhinoplasty and may be caused by the splints and nasal packing worn the first few days post-surgery. After removing the splints, patients will be able to see and admire their newly shaped and contoured nose.
