Breast Lift vs. Breast Augmentation

Breast Lift vs. Breast Augmentation: Deciding Which is Right for You

If you’re not happy with the size, shape, or position of your breasts, you’re not alone. Breast augmentations and breast lifts are in the Top 10 of cosmetic procedures performed in the United States each year.

At Breast Body Beauty Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Marietta, Georgia, Aisha Baron, MD, and our team provide a number of cosmetic breast procedures, such as augmentations and lifts, in a professional environment designed with your privacy and comfort in mind.

In this blog, Dr. Baron explains what these two procedures do and which one might be right for you.

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift generally keeps the size of your breasts the same, but it raises their positions. You may want them raised if they dropped due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or because you lost a significant amount of weight, for example.

During this procedure, Dr. Baron repositions your breasts by tightening particular tissues and removing excess tissues. She may also need to reposition or resize your areolas and nipples to match the new shapes and positions.

Most patients are able to return to work within two weeks and engage in full physical activity in a month. If you’re missing the perkiness you used to see and feel in your breasts, this may be the best procedure for you.

What is a breast augmentation?

A breast augmentation increases the size of your breasts. For example, you may want to make both breasts bigger because they’re naturally smaller. Or, you may want to make one bigger to make it match the other, or you may want a breast reconstruction after a mastectomy.

During this procedure, Dr. Baron places a saline or silicone implant within each breast to give them more volume while maintaining a natural look and feel. She also ensures the shape, size, and symmetry of your breasts match.

With this surgery, most patients are able to return to their normal activities in 1-2 weeks. However, you may need more time before you can return to high-impact activities, such as running.
